Introduction

Steron Vet Injection 30ml, a Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (SAID), is a potent anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and anti-allergic agent. It stabilizes individual cells and their internal structures, preventing them from releasing compounds that cause or perpetuate the irritation, discomfort, and swelling known as inflammation. Steron Vet Injection 30ml decreases the synthesis of prostaglandin (PG), interleukin (IL), and platelet activating factor (PAF) by blocking the cycloxyginase and lipoxyginase pathways of the inflammatory process.

Brief Description

Indication

Mastitis, endometritis, arthritis, laminitis, dermatitis, pneumonia, bronchitis, allergy, ketosis, shock (being hit by a car, attacked by another animal or usually slip & hypovolemic or surgical shock), Supportive therapy (Insect bite, snake bite, shipping fever, retention of placenta etc.), Induction of parturition, Immunosuppressive, Nervous system disorder, Blood calcium reduction, Cancer therapy etc.

Administration

Dexamethasone can be administered orally, intravenously, intramuscularly, or topically depending on the condition being treated.

Dose

Injection: For intramuscular or intravenous use only. Cattle: 2.5-10 ml (5-20 mg), repeat as needed. Horse: 1.25-2.5 ml (2.5-5 mg), repeat as needed. Dog/Cat: 0.50 ml (1 mg) daily for 3-5 days. In case of shock, dose should be 5 mg/kg IV. Bolus: For oral administration only. Cattle: 1/2-2 bolus (5-20 mg) daily. Horse: 1/2-1 bolus (5-10 mg) daily. Dog/Cat: 0.125-1 mg daily. Or as directed by Veterinary Physician.

Mode of Action

Dexamethasone is a potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive agent. It works by binding to glucocorticoid receptors, which then modulate the expression of genes involved in inflammation and immune responses.

Contraindication

Do not give to animals who are hypersensitive to dexamethasone.

Precautions

Dexamethasone dosing can vary significantly across different animal species. Careful dose titration and monitoring are essential to avoid adverse effects.Animals receiving Dexamethasone solution should be under close observation, as it may induce the first stage of parturition when administered during the last trimester of pregnancy, and may precipitate parturition followed by dystocia, fetal death, retained placenta and metritis.

Side Effect

The immune system may be suppressed. There is a possibility of muscle weakening.

Pregnancy & Lactation Category Note

Dexamethasone should be used with caution in pregnant or lactating animals, as it can cross the placenta and be excreted in milk.Abortion is possible in pregnant animals.

Interaction

Dexamethasone may interact with a variety of different drugs. Most significantly, dexamethasone and other steroids can interact with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. These drugs, when used simultaneously, may cause serious adverse effects.
